My Experience

I saw Il Volo live in Melbourne, FL October 9, 2011. I went with my friend, Hopeful Romantic, and met them. This is my Il Volo experience...
We arrived there, and it didn't seem like there were many teens. There were mostly older, Italian people. There were snacks for sale, and merchandise! My friend had arrived earlier than me and had been able to buy an Il Volo necklace. They sold out by the time I had gotten there :(. But I did get a t-shirt. :D My friend and I were in Row A (the first row!). There was no one in front of us. The show started promptly at 7. The boys came out and it was amazing! Seeing them for real and not just a screen put my friend and me in shock. We were frantically taking pictures and videos. I was really happy when I found out each of the boys had a solo song!
The concert went on, and I was blown away by their beautiful voices. Ignazio, Gianluca, and Piero kept a playful banter and stage presence. At one point, the boys each took a bouquet of roses and started throwing and handing them out to the audience. Piero ended up walking down the steps. He stopped right in front of my friend and personally handed her a rose! It was awesome!
Their concert ended at 9 PM, and then my friend and I (with our VIP passes) went to the lobby where all the VIP people were waiting. We all were walked backstage where we waited in line to meet the boys.
The entire time my friend and I were hyperventilating, and I could finally understand why some of those crazy Justin Bieber fans start crying. When we finally got to meet the boys, Piero immediately came over to sign our CDs. Gianluca kind of stayed to the side and Ignazio waited for us to take a picture. I stood next to Piero (he put his arm around me! :D), and we took pictures. I was sad I didn't talk to/stand next to Gianluca, but Piero was cool. I had almost forgotten to hand them my movie I made them, but I remembered before I left. I gave it to Piero who thanked me and ran into a room to drop it off. At one point during this meet and greet, Piero actually rubbed my arm, and I was like "AH!". Unfortunately, we only got to meet them for like three minutes, but it was the best three minutes ever!
Below are pictures taken personally by my camera/phone.
**Oh yeah! I forgot to mention Mia. She was this cute little girl from Atlanta, Georgia who had just had surgery. She was Il Volo's "special guest". The serenaded her, held her, and gave her a rose. They played a video of their "biggest fan". It was adorable seeing the boys interact with her. They smiled, waved, blew kisses, and squeezed her cheeks.

Since we were in the front, Piero stood RIGHT in front of us! If I had stood up and reached out just a little, I could've touched his Dolce and Gabbana sneakers! :)

Sorry for the bad quality, but here are my videos! If you close your eyes, the videos aren't half bad. (:
Not only did they sing songs from their albums, but also songs not from their albums and a sneak peak from their Christmas album due out November sometime.
FYI: I didn't record any FULL songs because I want you guys to try to go out to see them yourself!

  10. Asian Swag, you put lots of love into this blog, and it shows. I'm a great Il Volo fan, much, much older than you. It is wonderful how this group of talented young men can draw fans from all generations. It is a reminder to me of how music was when I was a young girl like you. When Grandparents, Parents, and their children could join together and appreciate music and song. I saw Il Volo live in Boston this past summer. ... Under a tent, while the weather went bananas. We in the tent became just as wet as the weather howling and pouring outside. Gianluca mentioned the American song and movie, ''Singing in the Rain'' and said he was truly singing in the rain. The ''boys'' have a special gift and quality coming straight from Heaven. They are God's gift to a very troubled world. I thank God for them, and thank them for being such special treasures to people around the world. This is so amazing!

  11. Thank you for the blog and photos and videos. I met these incredible performers at JFK Airport in NY at the Jet Blue terminal when they did a concert and meet and greet...and it was freeeeeee! Got Gianluca's autograph on my boarding pass, we had to go thru security just like prior to a flight. I am old enough to be their grandmother and have never heard such incredible voices and camaraderie among performers. These young men have a huge career ahead of them, and they are only in their teens. I hope the media and the pressure does not get to them because there will always be someone out there looking for a chance to scam someone. I think their management has a tight rein on them and that is good. You will notice these performers are not featured in the supermarket checkout rag magazines. The very special gift of their voices and friendship will take them anywhere they wish to be. If their careers were over tomorrow, they have already learned to speak a good amount of foreign languages, traveled allllll over the world and of course we know they will go on and on and on. I hope to see them again when they come back to New York. God bless you, Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero.

  12. These were amazing recounts of your experience with the boys. I will be going to their 8/27/13 concert in Concord, Calif., and will get to meet these Beautiful young people. I am a 67 yr old great grandmother and my family knows how much I love these boys and how their songs and videos affect me..they make me so happy when I'm feeling blue so they surprised me with a VIP MEET & GREET ticket along with my two sisters and a friend. They placed my reaction when they gave me the confirmation (screaming, yelling, disbelief), on FACEBOOK. I still can't believe it. They make me feel like a teenager again. I lost my husband of 45 years 7 years ago and GIANLUCA Reminds me of him. SOOOOO HANDSOME. This will be one of the best experience of my life. I wish I were 50 years younger.
